This remark was made in the context of Ukraine’s ambitious $938 billion recovery plan, which involves G7 nations, including the US, and private capital.
Orbán indicated that such a plan is far from a guarantee of EU financial support for Ukraine and referred to it as part of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace proposal, according to Telex.
Orbán reiterated Hungary’s support for Trump’s peace efforts and criticized what he described as Ukrainian interference in Hungary’s upcoming April parliamentary elections, without providing any evidence. Regarding Ukraine’s EU accession, Orbán firmly stated that no Hungarian parliament would approve such a move for the next century.

However, recently, an informal meeting of the EU General Affairs Council, a new format for technical negotiations with Ukraine was announced, bypassing the Hungarian veto.
Orbán further highlighted that Hungary has been blocking the opening of the first chapters in Ukraine’s EU negotiation process, a step crucial for membership.
Previously, Viktor Orbán said he expects Western sanctions on Russia to be lifted by 2027, arguing that the war in Ukraine could end by then and that EU energy restrictions are harmful to Hungary.
