“Why Not Give Russia a Piece of Your Own Land?” — Duda Rejects Ukrainian Territorial Concessions

Polish President Andrzej Duda firmly opposed any suggestion of Ukraine making territorial concessions to end the war with Russia.

Duda stated that in an interview with the Sunday Times.

When asked whether Ukraine could reclaim all its territories given Russia’s significant numerical advantage, he refrained from providing a direct answer.

“If you’re so generous towards Russia, why not give them a piece of your own land? Why should any sovereign country have to satisfy Russia? On what grounds, may I ask, does Russia deserve anything — especially someone else’s territory?” Duda said.

In an interview with Corriere della Sera, the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andrii Yermak, stated that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, never spoke about territorial compromises. 

Earlier, President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel suggested that Ukraine may have to accept the possibility of some of its territories remaining under Russian control after the war, describing this as a “temporary” situation.
