Chinese President Xi Jinping will travel to Moscow next week for a state visit and participate in Russia’s Victory Day celebrations, according to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 4.

Beijing confirmed that the visit will take place from May 7 to 10 at the invitation of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Xi will join the official ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, including the May 9 military parade in Moscow.

The announcement comes follows a statement from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who said Ukraine will not provide any guarantees for foreign nationals visiting Russia on May 9.

Zelenskyy also warned that Russia may attempt provocations during the commemorative events and emphasized that Ukraine cannot be held responsible for any incidents on Russian territory.

Earlier, Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready to begin a 30-day ceasefire starting May 7 if Russia is “genuinely ready,” rejecting Moscow’s proposed three-day truce as symbolic and ineffective. He emphasized that any pause must be meaningful, align with the US-backed plan, and include proper monitoring mechanisms.
