Zelenskyy Advocates for Joint Air Defense to Protect Ukraine, Poland, and Romania from Russian Drones

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of collaborative defense efforts to protect both Ukraine and neighboring countries, particularly Poland and Romania, from Russian drone attacks, Zelenskyy shared in an interview with the press on September 20.
Zelenskyy proposed a coordinated approach to air defense, highlighting the need for shared decision-making. He suggested that Ukraine’s air defense systems should not only intercept drones aimed at Ukrainian territory but also those targeting Poland, with Poland using its own air defense capabilities in response.

He pointed out that regions in western Ukraine, where Poland has the ability to assist, could be prioritized, but the cooperation could extend further to Romania as well.
“I believe it is fair to talk about a joint decision. Not only to prevent the drone from falling on the heads of Ukrainians and reaching Polish territory, but also to ensure that decisions are made together,” Zelenskyy said
Preiviously, it was reported that the European Union is preparing to take a major step toward strengthening its defenses against Russian drone threats. Next week, EU defense ministers are set to hold talks on building a so-called “drone wall” along the bloc’s eastern border.
