Zelenskyy and Kristersson Meet in Sweden’s Gripen Jet Hub for Key Defense Talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Sweden for talks with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in the city of Linköping, home to defense giant Saab, Sky News reported on October 22.
According to the Swedish government, the two leaders will visit a defense company and hold a joint press conference announcing new developments in defense exports. Kristersson emphasized that “a strong and capable Ukraine is a key priority for Sweden,” adding that both countries aim to deepen defense cooperation.

Linköping is the production hub for Saab’s JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets, GlobalEye surveillance aircraft, and anti-tank missile systems—equipment that has previously drawn Kyiv’s interest.
Discussions are expected to revisit Ukraine’s potential use of Gripen jets, a plan earlier paused as the country focused on integrating US-made F-16s into its air fleet, Sky News wrote.
Previously, it was reported that Sweden’s defense minister warned that Europe must prepare—morally and materially—for the real possibility of a conflict with Russia, saying nations should shift their mindset into “war mode” to deter and defend effectively, in an interview with German outlet RND.
