President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has approved new operations by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) aimed at Russian military infrastructure, with a particular focus on air defense systems. The announcement follows a strategic briefing by SBU head Vasyl Maliuk.

According to the President, the meeting centered on military operations, special missions, and the long-range capabilities of SBU units.

Zelenskyy expressed appreciation for the precision of these efforts but emphasized that operational details would remain classified. “The enemy feels the consequences of our actions,” he said.

Zelenskyy highlighted the effectiveness of the SBU in targeting Russian air defense systems during the first half of 2025. He stated that these actions have played a key role in enabling Ukraine’s long-range strikes against components of Russia’s military infrastructure and defense economy.

The President confirmed he had reviewed and authorized several upcoming SBU missions.

Earlier this year, on June 1, the SBU conducted a high-profile drone operation against four Russian military airbases: Olenya, Ivanovo, Dyagilevo, and Belaya. The operation, overseen personally by Maliuk under presidential directive, reportedly damaged over 40 aircraft, including a significant portion of Russia’s strategic aviation assets.

SBU officials later stated that the strikes had affected 34% of Russia’s cruise missile carrier fleet stationed at key airfields.

Details of the newly approved missions remain undisclosed, but the focus on degrading Russian air defense networks suggests a continued effort to expand Ukraine’s reach into contested airspace.
