Ukraine’s SBU Obliterates Russian Jets in Bold Night Strike on Crimea Airbase

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) launched another successful strike deep inside occupied Crimea, destroying and damaging several Russian combat aircraft in a nighttime drone operation at the Saky airbase, SBU reported on August 4.
According to SBU, the special forces unit “Alpha” carried out the attack overnight, targeting one of Russia’s most important military airfields for operations over the Black Sea.

“As a result of the strike, an ammunition depot was hit, a Su-30SM fighter jet was completely destroyed, and another one damaged. Three Su-24 bombers were also impacted,” a source within the SBU confirmed.
The destroyed Su-30SM, a modern multirole fighter, is estimated to cost between $35 million and $50 million.

The Saky airfield, located in western Crimea, has been used extensively by Russia’s naval aviation for missile and bombing raids across southern Ukraine.
“This successful special operation by the SBU’s Alpha unit is yet another step toward weakening the enemy’s capacity to wage war,” the SBU said.

“The occupiers must remember—they will never be safe on our land!”
Earlier, satellite imagery confirmed the destruction of multiple helicopters and a Pantsir-S1 air defense system at the Kirovske airfield in Russian-occupied Crimea, following a recent Ukrainian drone strike.
