Zelenskyy Honours Polish President Duda with Ukraine’s Order of Freedom

President Andrzej Duda of Poland was awarded Ukraine’s Order of Freedom in Kyiv on Saturday—his final visit as head of state. He met President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and joined Constitution Day celebrations.
Upon arrival at Kyiv’s Central Railway Station, President Duda was welcomed by Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who called him “Ukraine’s true friend.” He then attended Constitution Day events and held talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
President Zelenskyy bestowed the Order of Freedom—the highest Ukrainian award for foreign nationals—on President Duda in recognition of his outstanding personal contributions to strengthening Ukrainian–Polish cooperation and supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
This trip marked President Duda’s final journey to Ukraine as president; in Poland’s June 1 runoff election, conservative nationalist Karol Nawrocki was elected with 50.89% of the vote.
During his presidency, President Duda has overseen significant military and humanitarian aid deliveries to Ukraine, welcomed millions of Ukrainian refugees into Poland and persistently lobbied international partners to maintain and expand support for Kyiv.
Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda traveled by train to Kyiv on August 24, 2024, for the 33rd anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence Day—an unannounced trip due to security concerns and his fifth visit since the Russian invasion—confirmed by video footage and social media posts from the Polish President’s Office.
