Zelenskyy Supports Deploying International Peacekeeping Troops in Ukraine to End Russia’s War
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that deploying an international contingent in Ukraine would be one of the most effective tools to pressure Russia into peace. The President made this statement on January 9 during the 25th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format.
Zelenskyy reminded that last year, France had proposed the idea of deploying partners’ contingents in Ukraine to make peace closer.
“And we all understand – as for today, Putin’s aims remain unchanged. And he wants to totally destroy Ukraine – and to break all of us and you too. That’s why our goal to find as many instruments as possible to force Russia into peace,” Zelenskyy said.
“I believe that such deployment of partners’ contingents is one of the best instruments. Let’s be more practical in making it possible.”
The President added that he had heard similar signals from the United Kingdom.
“And we must be brave, and we must propose truly strong instruments,” Zelenskyy added.
During the January 9 Ramstein format meeting, the participating allies agreed on plans to support Ukraine's defense capabilities through 2027.
