Zelenskyy: Ukraine Now Producing 40 2S22 Bohdana 155mm Howitzers Each Month

Ukraine has doubled monthly output of its domestically designed 2S22 Bohdana 155mm self-propelled howitzer to 40 units, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on October 6 in Kyiv at the International Defense Industries Forum.
“We are producing 40 of our Bohdana self-propelled howitzers every month. And that is a serious result,” he said, adding that more than 40% of the weapons used on the front line are now made in Ukraine.
The latest figure marks a steep rise from late 2024, when Zelenskyy told reporters that Ukraine was producing “almost 20 Bohdana artillery units monthly,” a pace that several trade and defense outlets also described as “more than 20” by early 2025.
Ukrainian outlets including RBC-Ukraine name the 40-per-month rate on October 6, quoting the president’s remarks at the forum. Militarnyi, which tracks domestic weapons programs, likewise carried the update and noted the rapid ramp-up from last year’s levels.

Zelenskyy linked the higher output to a broader push to localize production and diversify supply chains with European partners. Earlier reporting highlighted Denmark’s financing mechanism and EU support that helped accelerate procurement of Bohdana systems from Ukrainian factories.
The Bohdana, Ukraine’s first NATO-caliber 155mm wheeled howitzer, entered serial production during the full-scale war and has seen iterative upgrades as manufacturing dispersed to multiple facilities to mitigate strike risk.
As Zelenskyy summarized at the forum: “Already more than 40% of the weapons used on the front line are ours, Ukrainian-made weapons… our goal is that by the end of the year, at least 50% of the weapons on the front line will be Ukrainian-made.”
Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine’s Bohdana howitzer is now in mass production, with output exceeding 30 units per month.
