Zelenskyy: Ukraine Seeks to Buy 27 Patriot Systems From US Manufacturers

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine intends to order 27 Patriot air defense systems from American manufacturers as Russia continues to pound Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, he said in an interview with The Guardian on November 11.
Over the past several weeks, Moscow has launched repeated waves of drone and missile strikes on Ukraine’s power grid, triggering widespread blackouts and damaging critical infrastructure.
“These are our living conditions,” Zelenskyy said. “It’s normal. We have fluctuations with electricity in Kyiv, like everywhere else.”
The Ukrainian leader accused Vladimir Putin of personally ordering what he called “terrorist attacks” on the country’s energy system, targeting civilians and leaving them without heat, power, or water.

“He can’t create tension within our society in any other way,” Zelenskyy added.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine was working closely with international partners to strengthen its defenses against Russia’s nightly drone assaults but emphasized that existing aid remains insufficient.
While the United States and its European allies have sent a range of air-defense systems, Patriot batteries remain in short supply.
Zelenskyy said Kyiv intends to purchase 27 new Patriot systems directly from US producers and urged European nations to loan Ukraine their existing units to protect against ongoing attacks.
Earlier, Ukraine received the Patriot air-defense systems pledged by Germany.
