Zelenskyy: Ukrainian Drones Have Been Effective Against Russian Oil Industry, But It’s Not Enough
The Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen (L) and the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha (R) look at Ukrainian drones at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the effectiveness of Ukraine’s drone operations targeting Russian oil refineries, highlighting the growing impact on Russia’s energy sector, he told to the press on September 20.

While Ukraine’s drone production capacity has increased, Zelenskyy pointed out that the current pace is still not enough to fully match Russia’s vulnerabilities. The main factor, he noted, is funding, with the production of long-range drones dependent on financial support.

“As soon as the number of drones becomes comparable to that of the Russians, they will feel it in terms of fuel shortages and quantity. We are seeing this more and more,” he said.

Zelenskyy also discussed Ukraine’s continued strikes on military targets in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories and within Russia itself, particularly targeting drone storage sites.

These operations, he said, are having a significant impact on Russian logistics, disrupting military supply chains.

On the reaction from international partners, Zelenskyy stressed the importance of minimizing civilian casualties while targeting Russian logistics infrastructure.

He highlighted that while Russian airports are being neutralized, civilian life remains largely unaffected, reflecting the precision and effectiveness of Ukraine’s military operations.

Previously, it was reported that Russia’s state-owned oil pipeline monopoly, Transneft, has warned oil producers that they may need to scale back output following a series of Ukrainian drone attacks on critical export ports and refineries.
