Belgorod Governor Admits Russian Air Defenses Can’t Stop Ukrainian Drones at Border

Russia’s air-defense systems are unable to intercept Ukrainian drones at the border, allowing them to penetrate deeper into Russian territory and cause damage, the governor of the Belgorod region admitted during a broadcast on a Russian state media outlet, TASS, on September 18.
“The issue is altitude, which does not allow us to shoot them down immediately at the state border. When they descend, our units acquire them as a target, and then they are destroyed,” Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said.
Gladkov was responding to a Belgorod resident who asked why drones still fall on the city, even though the military knows how many have entered Russian airspace and where they are headed.
The woman also questioned why federal television channels barely cover the regular strikes in the Belgorod region.

“No one is hiding anything. The regional government provides information down to the smallest detail, every incident,” Gladkov insisted.
He explained that national broadcasters do not report extensively on Ukrainian drone attacks because of the “large volume of news” across Russia.
Earlier, Russia reportedly began using Yak-52 trainer aircraft to target unmanned aerial vehicles, following earlier Ukrainian practices.
