Zelenskyy: We Are Ready to Help Syria Prevent a Food Crisis
Ukraine is preparing to provide humanitarian assistance to Syria in a bid to avert a looming food crisis, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during his evening address on December 14.
“We are ready to help Syria prevent a food crisis,” Zelenskyy stated, emphasizing Ukraine’s commitment to supporting stabilization efforts in the region following the anticipated fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
Zelenskyy pointed to Ukraine’s ‘Grain from Ukraine’ humanitarian initiative as a key component of this aid. “I have instructed the government to organize food deliveries in cooperation with international organizations and partners willing to help,” he added.
The Ukrainian president urged global partners to join efforts in fostering lasting peace in Syria, a country devastated by years of civil war.
“And we call on everyone in the world to join in the stabilization efforts so that the war ignited more than a decade ago in Syria — ignited with Iran and Russia’s involvement — so that this war finally comes to an end,” Ukrainian President concluded.
Previously, Ukraine’s Military Intelligence Directorate reported that Russian forces in Syria were facing significant shortages of drinking water and food as the withdrawal of troops from remote regions continued.
