Russian forces in Syria are facing significant shortages of drinking water and food as the withdrawal of troops from remote regions continues, according to Ukraine’s Military Intelligence Directorate (HUR) on December 15, 2024.

Amid speculation among Russian soldiers, there are claims that Moscow reached an agreement to maintain a limited presence at its key bases in Tartus and Khmeimim, with an estimated contingent of up to 3,000 personnel.

Reports indicate that both the remaining Russian forces at these bases and the navy vessels stationed in the region are experiencing acute shortages of essential supplies. The logistical strain has left troops awaiting much-needed provisions, which are expected to be delivered via military transport aircraft.

According to plans, 2 An-124-100 and 2 Il-76MD transport planes were scheduled to depart from Chkalovsk airfield to Khmeimim on December 14 to deliver food and other supplies.

Previously, satellite images showed that Russian Forces were actively withdrawing equipment from Syria.
