Breaking: Russia Launches Massive Combined Aerial Attack on Ukraine—Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro Hit

Russia launched a massive overnight aerial attack across Ukraine on June 2, hitting Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro and other major cities with waves of drones and ballistic missiles. The strikes ignited multiple fires, damaged civilian infrastructure, and caused casualties. The attack is still ongoing.

Air raid alerts were activated across much of the country as Russian forces launched waves of drones throughout the evening before expanding the attack overnight with missile strikes. Ukraine’s Air Force warned of incoming aerial threats, while monitoring groups reported activity by Russian Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers.
Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia were among the cities affected.
Kyiv
Explosions were heard overnight in the capital as Ukrainian air defenses engaged incoming targets. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported several fires caused by falling debris.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported multiple fires and damage in several districts. In the Podilskyi district, a fire broke out on the grounds of a non-residential property. Debris also reportedly struck the roof of a nine-story residential building, causing a fire and damaging windows.
In the Obolonskyi district, falling missile debris set several vehicles on fire and sparked additional fires at two separate locations, including an area near a kindergarten.
Klitschko later reported a fire at a non-residential site in the Sviatoshynskyi district following the fall of debris. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, debris struck a non-residential building, causing a fire on the second and third floors.

Additional damage was reported in the Darnytskyi district, where debris ignited a fire on the grounds of a gas station.Power outages were reported in parts of the Podilskyi, Obolonskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi districts.
In the Solomianskyi district, debris believed to be from a missile struck a 15-story residential building, damaging its upper floors. Authorities also reported a separate fire at a private house after suspected drone debris fell onto the grounds of a private property.
According to Klitschko, a second strike hit the nine-story residential building in the Podilskyi district, causing a partial structural collapse. Emergency responders said people could be trapped beneath the rubble.

Klitschko later reported that the number of injured in the capital had risen to eight. Seven people were hospitalized, while one received medical assistance at the scene.
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a missile struck a 24-story residential building, causing a fire between the fourth and fifth floors. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene.
In the Holosiivskyi district, falling debris caused a fire at a clinic building. Klitschko later reported that the second and third floors of the facility had partially collapsed as a result of the strike and subsequent fire. Additional vehicle fires were also reported in an open area following another debris impact.
Kharkiv
In Kharkiv, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said Russian strikes hit the city’s Osnovianskyi district, including an industrial area.
Local authorities reported fires and damage to civilian infrastructure. Authorities also reported damage near a private residence in the Osnovianskyi district, as well as damage to vehicles and an office building.
According to Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov, at least eight people were affected by the attack in the Slobidskyi district, including an 11-year-old girl. Syniehubov said seven people suffered acute stress reactions, while one woman was injured by shattered glass. All received medical assistance.
Dnipropetrovsk Region
In the city of Dnipro, regional military administration head Oleksandr Hanzha reported that part of a two-story residential building was destroyed following the attack. A fire broke out at the site as emergency crews responded to the aftermath.

Hanzha later said four people were killed in the strike. Five others were injured and hospitalized in moderate condition. The attack also damaged several apartments in a four-story residential building.

In the city of Kamianske, authorities reported fires in both a single-story and a five-story residential building. Emergency services continued efforts to extinguish the fires and assess the extent of the damage.
Zaporizhzhia
Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration head Ivan Fedorov said Russian strikes damaged critical and industrial infrastructure facilities.
One strike was reported late on June 1, while another occurred shortly after midnight. According to Fedorov, an industrial facility was among the targets hit during the attack.

Fedorov later said Zaporizhzhia was under a “massive enemy attack,” reporting at least 20 strikes on the regional center using various types of weapons. The extent of the damage and possible casualties was still being determined at the time of publication.
Sumy
Explosions were also reported in Sumy during the attack. As of publication, local authorities had not released detailed information regarding casualties or damage.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian forces launched attack drones throughout June 1 before expanding the operation overnight with additional missile strikes. Air defense alerts remained active across several regions as Ukrainian forces responded to the attack.
Earlier, on April 16, Russian forces launched more than 700 missiles and drones within a 24-hour period. The strikes killed at least 16 people in Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, and other cities, while emergency workers in the capital were targeted in a double-tap attack during rescue operations.
