Daily Update: Russia Loses 1,440 Troops, 2 Tanks, and 93 Artillery Systems

Russian forces lost an estimated 1,440 troops, two tanks, and 93 artillery systems over the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s General Staff reported on August 17.
The latest figures bring Russia’s total estimated personnel losses since the start of its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, to approximately 1,468,760.

According to the General Staff, Russian forces also lost four armored combat vehicles, three multiple launch rocket systems, two air defense systems, 16 UGVs, and 2,093 operational-tactical UAVs during the reporting period.
Ukraine additionally reported the destruction of three cruise missiles, 597 vehicles and fuel tankers, and five pieces of special equipment.

Russia’s cumulative equipment losses are now estimated at 12,272 tanks, 25,155 armored combat vehicles, 48,100 artillery systems, 2,037 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,572 air defense systems, 439 aircraft, 354 helicopters, 2,273 UGVs, 465,497 operational-tactical UAVs, 5,010 cruise missiles, 35 ships and boats, two submarines, 135,448 vehicles and fuel tankers, and 4,540 pieces of special equipment.
Ukraine’s General Staff recorded 236 combat engagements between Ukrainian and Russian forces across the front over the past 24 hours.
Previously, reports emerged that Russia suffered nearly 43,000 battlefield casualties in July 2026, making it the Russian military’s highest monthly loss figure since January 2025, while Ukrainian forces recorded their largest territorial gains in more than a year.
