After months of discussions fuelled by eager anticipation from Ukrainians and their allies, Ukraine is set to receive its first F-16 fighter jets. And it looks like we even have dates for when thats likely to happen. Here’s what we know so far.

Denmark:

On April 30th, Danish Ambassador to Ukraine Ole Egberg Mikkelsen announced that Danish F-16 fighter jets will arrive in Ukraine this summer. He added that pilots and ground crews are currently undergoing training for their use. Earlier, we gained exclusive access to the training grounds in Denmark, where Ukrainian pilots were learning how to fly the F-16s.

Netherlands:

In addition to Denmark, the Dutch Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren said that the Netherlands also plan to begin sending F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine—but this autumn.

“We have everything planned according to the project, which consists of training Ukrainian pilots, preparing service personnel, and handing over real aircraft,” Ollongren said.

Recently, the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykola Oleshchuk, has also announced that Ukraine has received its first F-16 fighter jet simulator, which was transferred by the Czech Republic to one of the tactical aviation brigades.

As we await for more details on when Ukraine is set to receive the F16s, read more about how these fighter jets are set to enhance Ukraine's defence capabilities.
