US envoy Steve Witkoff is preparing to travel to Russia for high-level negotiations, but Moscow has signaled it will not make political compromises.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow intends to hear what proposal Witkoff brings, while emphasizing that political concessions remain off the table, as reported by RBC-Ukraine on October 20.

Lavrov further indicated that while Moscow is prepared to rebuild relations with Western nations, conditions will not return to the state they were in prior to 2022, following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Addressing the topic of sanctions, he stated that Russian officials do not anticipate major shifts from the Trump administration. Lavrov urged against overestimating the decision not to enforce particular sanctions legislation authored by Senator Lindsey Graham, pointing out that future presidential administrations could adopt entirely different positions.

Previously, Russian military leaders announced intentions to split Kyiv in two by targeting strategic bridges across Ukraine, following a high-level briefing led by Vladimir Putin on the priorities of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Concurrently, Putin directed the continuation of massive strikes on Ukrainian facilities and called for increased air defense effectiveness, while official Kremlin statements ruled out discussing border safety zones in future negotiations and highlighted significant disruptions to Ukraine's steel production and Black Sea port operations.
