Lithuania Plans to Use Its Defense Industry to Supply Ukrainian Forces With Advanced Drones

Lithuania is planning to use its domestic defense manufacturing capacity to produce unmanned aerial vehicles for Ukraine in cooperation with Ukrainian partners.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda announced the initiative following a meeting of the State Defense Council, as reported by Delfi on September 16.

Each year, the Baltic nation directs over 0.25% of its gross domestic product to assist Ukraine, an amount that exceeds €230 million ($265 million).
Officials propose utilizing a significant portion of these annual funds to manufacture drones on Lithuanian territory.
The manufacturing initiative relies on integrating Ukrainian technology into production lines, with the resulting equipment to be supplied directly to the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Two agreements covering this cooperative effort have already been signed between the two nations. However, actual production volume at facilities in Lithuania has not yet reached expected levels.
Delays were initially attributed to lengthy licensing procedures required on the Ukrainian side.
President Nausėda acknowledged that domestic factors in Lithuania have also contributed to the slow ramp-up, specifically citing delays in selecting participating manufacturing companies and a small volume of initial orders.
Ukrainian FP-1 long-range drones, meanwhile, have recently set a new distance record by traveling over 3,200 kilometers to strike a Gazprom processing plant in Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets region.
The strike targeted a specific gas treatment unit, which, as estimated, could disrupt roughly 10 percent of Russia’s combined polyethylene and polypropylene production capacity.
