Magura Sea Drones Goes From Hunter to FPV Mothership, Striking Russian Radars in Crimea

Ukraine’s military intelligence has unveiled a new version of its Magura naval drone capable of carrying and launching FPV drones, extending the platform’s reach from attacks at sea to strikes against Russian military targets on land.

HUR’s Group 13 special operations unit used the modified maritime platforms during an operation in temporarily occupied Crimea in late July 2026, the agency reported on August 3.

FPV drones launched from the Magura platforms struck two Russian radar-related targets: a command vehicle belonging to a Podlet radar complex and a Parol-4 identification friend-or-foe radar interrogator.

The operation marks a major expansion of Magura’s battlefield role. Previously associated primarily with attacks on Russian ships and aircraft over the Black Sea, the platform can now serve as a mobile offshore launch base for FPV strikes against coastal and inland targets.

“From now on, our Maguras also threaten the Russian occupiers on land—this fundamentally shifts the fight into another dimension,” said the Group 13 commander, call sign Thirteen.

He added that Ukraine’s operations had demonstrated Russian forces would find no safe zone in occupied Crimea.

“There will be no place for the invaders in Crimea—neither in its waters, nor in the skies above the Black Sea, nor on Crimean soil. Crimea is Ukraine,” he said.

According to HUR, Group 13 operators have destroyed nine Russian vessels and damaged five more during the war. The unit has also reportedly destroyed three Russian helicopters, damaged another, and eliminated two Black Sea Fleet fighter aircraft.

Earlier, reports emerged that a combat-proven Ukrainian unmanned surface vessel will be manufactured in the United States for the first time after Ukrainian developer UFORCE, the company behind the MAGURA maritime drone program, signed an agreement with US defense boat builder RECONCRAFT.
