Norway will allocate over $300 million to support Ukraine through a NATO initiative aimed at procuring US-made weapons, according to Devdiscourse on May 6.

The funding will be channeled via the NATO Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), a mechanism designed to coordinate the acquisition of critical military equipment for Ukraine.

According to reporting by Devdiscourse, the Norwegian government said the contribution reflects its continued commitment to assisting Ukraine amid ongoing security challenges and heightened geopolitical tensions.

Officials in Oslo emphasized that supporting Ukraine remains a key strategic priority, particularly in light of the broader regional security environment.

In parallel with this effort, Norway is also deepening defense-industrial cooperation with Ukraine. Under a separate agreement, Kyiv and Oslo plan to launch joint production of unmanned aerial vehicles on Norwegian territory, with several thousand medium-range strike drones expected to be manufactured.

The initiative will be financed by Norway through additional funds beyond the previously approved $7 billion in defense support for Ukraine in 2026, with all drones designated for Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

The agreement was signed in Kyiv by Norway’s ambassador to Ukraine, Lars Ragnar Aalerud Hansen, and Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister for European Integration, Serhii Boiev.

“The agreement creates opportunities to scale up production of Ukrainian technologies that have already proven effective on the battlefield and to strengthen the defense capabilities of both countries,” Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said.

The ministry added that Norway also plans to allocate more than $1.5 billion this year for the procurement of Ukrainian-made weapons for Ukraine’s armed forces.

At the same yime, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said the F-16 fighter jets pledged to Ukraine have already been formally transferred to Ukrainian ownership but are still undergoing extensive repairs before they can be deployed in combat.
