Russia Loses 1,080 Troops, Air Defense System and Two MLRS in One Day

Russian forces lost 1,080 troops, one air defense system, and two multiple launch rocket systems over the past 24 hours, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on May 9.

According to the Ukrainian military, a total of 245 combat engagements took place along the front line during the same period, indicating continued heavy fighting across multiple sectors.
The latest figures bring Russia’s estimated total losses since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022 to approximately 1,340,270 personnel.
Ukraine’s General Staff also reported the destruction of one tank, three armored combat vehicles, 82 artillery systems, and seven ground robotic systems.
Russian forces additionally lost 1,479 operational-tactical drones and 373 military vehicles and fuel tankers in the past day, according to the update.

The cumulative Russian equipment losses reported by Ukraine now include 11,920 tanks, 24,541 armored fighting vehicles, 41,712 artillery systems, 1,780 multiple launch rocket systems, and 1,371 air defense systems.
Ukraine also estimates that Russia has lost 435 aircraft, 352 helicopters, 33 ships and boats, two submarines, 281,208 drones, and 4,585 cruise missiles since February 2022.
According to the General Staff, Russian forces launched one missile strike and 23 airstrikes over the past day, dropping 87 guided aerial bombs. Moscow’s troops also deployed 8,189 attack drones and carried out 1,936 strikes on Ukrainian positions and populated areas, including 10 attacks using multiple launch rocket systems.
Ukraine’s Air Force, missile troops, and artillery reportedly struck 10 areas of Russian troop concentration, one command post, two artillery systems, and one logistics warehouse during the same period.
The heaviest fighting was recorded in the Pokrovsk, Huliaipole, and Slobozhanskyi sectors, where Russian forces continued offensive operations against Ukrainian defensive positions.
Earlier, satellite imagery confirmed successful Ukrainian strikes on Russia’s Sverdlov explosives plant in Dzerzhinsk, the Kedrovka ammunition arsenal in the Sverdlovsk region, and the Bryansk Chemical Plant in Seltso. The facilities are involved in producing explosives, aerial bombs, and storing ammunition for the Russian military.
