Russia Loses 1,500 Troops, 69 Artillery Systems, and 8 MLRS in One Day

Russian forces suffered an estimated 1,500 personnel casualties and lost 69 artillery systems, eight multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), and two air defense systems over the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s General Staff reported on August 2.

Russia’s total estimated personnel losses since launching its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, have now reached approximately 1,449,120.

Ukraine also reported the destruction of 10 armored combat vehicles, 11 UGVs, 1,788 operational-tactical UAVs, 456 vehicles and fuel tankers, two cruise missiles, and two pieces of special equipment.

Russia’s cumulative losses now include 12,231 tanks, 25,070 armored combat vehicles, 47,196 artillery systems, 1,988 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,529 air defense systems, 439 aircraft, 354 helicopters, 2,108 UGVs, 439,291 operational-tactical UAVs, 5,007 cruise missiles, 34 ships and boats, two submarines, 128,953 vehicles and fuel tankers, and 4,486 pieces of special equipment.

Ukraine recorded 234 combat engagements across the front over the past day, including 27 in the Pokrovsk direction, 21 in the South Slobozhanskyi direction, 19 in the Kostiantynivka direction, 18 in the Sloviansk direction, and 16 in the Lyman direction.

Russian forces carried out two missile strikes involving 31 missiles and launched 91 airstrikes, dropping 298 guided aerial bombs. They also deployed 11,083 attack drones and conducted 3,343 attacks on Ukrainian positions and populated areas, including four using multiple launch rocket systems.

Ukraine’s missile forces, aviation, and artillery struck 15 areas of Russian troop concentration, one UAV command post, and one command-and-observation post, according to the General Staff.

Earlier, Ukraine’s naval drones sank the Yanina, a cargo ship operated by Russian logistics company FESCO, which has been controlled by state nuclear corporation Rosatom since 2023. The vessel was struck by two Ukrainian uncrewed surface vessels in the Black Sea and sank while sailing in international waters.
