Russia Threw Six FPV Drones at Ukraine’s Armed Robot—It Completed the Mission Anyway

Ukraine’s Droid TW-12.7 unmanned ground vehicle survived five FPV drone strikes and completed its combat mission before a sixth hit finally disabled the platform, according to a DevDroid press release shared with UNITED24 Media on September 2.

Soldiers from the fire support company of Ukraine’s 74th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion deployed the UGV during a remotely conducted operation against a concentration of Russian troops.

As the Droid TW-12.7 approached the position, two FPV drones struck the vehicle almost simultaneously. One of the hits damaged its aiming module, but the platform remained mobile and continued the mission.

Operators adapted to the damage by aiming in the direction of the weapon barrel and opened fire on the target. Two additional FPV drones struck the UGV during the engagement, but it remained operational long enough to complete its primary task.

The vehicle then began withdrawing and survived a fifth FPV strike while continuing to move. A sixth drone eventually disabled it on the return route.

DevDroid said the Russian troop concentration was cleared and enemy forces suffered losses. The entire operation was carried out remotely, allowing Ukrainian personnel to avoid direct contact with Russian troops.

“In this engagement, the enemy was able to stop the Droid only with the sixth FPV drone, but they still failed to prevent it from completing the mission. For us, this is what survivability means in practice: after being hit, a system must not simply remain mobile—it must retain enough functionality for its operators to complete the mission and achieve the intended result,” DevDroid CEO Yurii Poritskyi said.

The Droid TW-12.7 is a Ukrainian reconnaissance-and-strike UGV developed by DevDroid. It is equipped with a remotely operated turret carrying a 12.7 mm M2 Browning heavy machine gun, as well as an integrated ballistic computer and AI-assisted targeting functions.

The platform is designed to engage personnel, vehicles, and lightly armored targets while allowing Ukrainian troops to conduct dangerous frontline missions from a safer distance.

Earlier, reports emerged that Ukraine is expanding its fleet of unmanned ground vehicles, aiming to produce at least 50,000 combat and logistics robots this year to reinforce infantry units and bridge manpower shortages along the frontline.
