Russian Attack on Kherson Kills Two as Apartment Block Fire Destroys 36 Homes

On June 3, Russian forces launched attacks on the southern city of Kherson, killing two people and injuring nine others, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES).

Emergency officials said Russian drone strikes hit one of the city’s districts, igniting fires in apartments inside a multi-story residential building and causing several large blazes.

Rescue crews were deployed to the scene to respond to the fires and assist affected civilians.

According to the SES, emergency workers also came under the threat of repeated attacks while carrying out rescue operations.

“After one of the repeated attacks, emergency responders provided first aid to injured civilians and handed them over to police officers for further evacuation to a medical facility,” the agency said in a statement.

Kherson City Military Administration head Yaroslav Shanko also reported that in Dniprovskyi district, a mass Russian drone attack on a multi-story residential building sparked a major fire that destroyed 36 apartments and affected 63 residents, according to Kherson City Military Administration head Yaroslav Shanko.

Additionally, on June 4, 12-year-old boy was injured after a Russian strike drone hit a residential building in Kherson’s Korabelnyi district, according to the Kherson Regional Military Administration.

Regional authorities said the attack occurred shortly before the announcement was made. A Russian unmanned aerial vehicle struck a house in the district, causing injuries to the child.

Doctors diagnosed the boy with blast injuries, a closed traumatic brain injury, and a concussion.

The victim is currently undergoing additional medical examinations and receiving the necessary treatment, the administration said.

Apart from Kherson, Russian forces launched a drone attack on the city of Kharkiv on June 3, injuring six people.

The strikes targeted the city’s Osnovianskyi and Kholodnohirskyi districts, sparking a fire and causing damage to a hangar, two vehicles, a private residential property, and a pumping station. One of the vehicles caught fire as a result of the attack.
