Russian Ballistic Attack on Kyiv Leaves Five Ambulance Staff Injured and Residents Trapped

Kyiv was targeted by a Russian ballistic missile and strike drone bombardment overnight on July 2, 2026, the city’s mayor, Vitaliy Klitschko, and military administration reported.
UPD 2: Tkachenko reported that the number of people injured in the attack has risen to 16, and two people have been killed.
UPD: Klitchko reported that 11 people have been wounded in Kyiv and that all of them are being treated in Kyiv hospitals.
Head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tkachenko Tymur, added that one person was killed as a result of the Russian attack.
The strike hit an ambulance substation, a nine-story residential building, and the roof of another high-rise. Five substation workers, including medics and drivers, were injured—with one paramedic in critical condition—while multiple residents remain trapped inside the partially destroyed nine-story apartment.

The casualties occurred within the Shevchenkivskyi district of the city, where medical teams are currently operating on-site to treat the wounded emergency staff.
Klitschko later reported that two people injured in the Shevchenkivskyi District were admitted to a hospital in the capital.
Heavy rescue operations are simultaneously unfolding across the rest of the capital. In the Desnianskyi district, search-and-rescue teams are working to extract the trapped residents from the ruined high-rise, while fire brigades in the Holosiivskyi district work to contain the roof blaze, Klitschko wrote.
The ballistic missile strikes followed an earlier wave from the same overnight assault, during which Russian forces launched a drone attack against Kyiv, with debris igniting a fire at a central hotel. Hours before the bombardment, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned that intelligence indicated Russia was preparing a massive coordinated strike.
