Russian Drone and Artillery Strikes Target Multiple Ukrainian Regions; 10 Injured in Ternopil

Russian forces launched a large wave of drone and artillery strikes across multiple regions of Ukraine on May 1, targeting civilian infrastructure, residential areas, and commercial facilities. Regional authorities reported injuries and significant damage across Ternopil, Vinnytsia, Odesa, and Kherson.
One of the heaviest strikes was recorded in western Ukraine’s Ternopil region. According to Ternopil Mayor Serhiy Nadal, over 50 “Shahed” strike drones targeted the city, resulting in more than 20 explosions. Nadal reported that the strikes hit industrial and infrastructure facilities, leaving several neighborhoods without electricity, with the repair crews working to restore the power grid.

Nadal confirmed that 10 people were injured in the attack, including some in serious condition. All victims are receiving medical care, and no fatalities have been reported as of the latest update. The mayor also issued a warning regarding unexploded ordnance.
In central Ukraine, Natalia Zabolotna, Head of the Vinnytsia Regional State Administration, reported that a residential house was destroyed by a falling UAV. Zabolotna stated that a woman was injured in the incident and has been hospitalized, though her life is not in danger.
During the day, Russian strike drones also targeted southern Ukraine. Oleh Kiper, Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, stated that an attack on the Odesa district damaged the roof of a local shopping center. Kiper confirmed that the strike ignited a fire, which emergency services have already extinguished. There were no casualties, and efforts to clear the debris were underway.
Further east, the Kherson Regional State Administration reported morning artillery attacks. Around 07:00, Russian troops shelled the Korabelny district of Kherson. According to the administration, a 64-year-old woman was severely injured while inside her home.
She sustained facial burns, a concussion, and explosive and closed craniocerebral injuries. An ambulance transported the victim to the hospital, where she is currently in moderate condition.
To defend against such drone attacks, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have recently been set to receive 8,000 Octopus-100 interceptor drones specifically designed to neutralize loitering munitions. Developed within the Armed Forces of Ukraine and utilizing an automatic guidance system, the production program now includes 29 licensed Ukrainian companies, including defense holding TAF Industries and electronic warfare manufacturer UNWAVE.
