The attack destroyed the bird treatment facility, chicken coop, and quail enclosure at the Sadiba Nyushanik rehabilitation center in the Vyshhorod district.
“We were hit. The bird treatment facility, chicken coop, and quail enclosure burned down. There were birds and a cat inside, as well as all the equipment and feed,” Snopko said.
Sadiba Nyushanik specialized in the rehabilitation of birds of prey and waterfowl. Its staff cared for various species, including storks, swans, owls, hawks, and kestrels.
The destruction of the center follows another Russian strike on an animal shelter in Ukraine. On September 29, an overnight attack hit the Loving Hearts shelter in Velykodolynske, Odesa region, killing several animals and destroying supplies stored at the facility.
The shelter said three dogs and 10 cats were killed, while the fate of other animals remained unclear. The owner managed to open the enclosures during the attack, allowing animals to escape, though it was not immediately known how many survived.
The attacks on the animal facilities occurred as Russia launched a large-scale overnight missile and drone barrage across Ukraine, killing at least 13 people and injuring 59, including three children. A residential building was struck in Pryluky, while an unexploded ballistic missile fell among homes in Kyiv.
