Russian Drone Targets Office of Acting SBU Head in Kyiv, Zelenskyy Confirms

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ordered a “mirrored” retaliatory strike after a Russian drone directly hit the office of acting SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad at the agency’s central Kyiv headquarters on September 4, injuring at least seven people.

A Russian drone directly struck the central headquarters of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Kyiv, specifically targeting the office of acting SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad and causing several casualties, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on September 4.
“Unfortunately, there was a Russian drone strike on the central SBU building on Volodymyrska Street in Kyiv opposite St. Sophia Cathedral,” Zelenskyy stated following a conversation with Poklad. He confirmed that emergency personnel had been immediately deployed to the site, noting, “Everyone who was injured will be provided with the necessary assistance.”

The Ukrainian president emphasized the deliberate nature of the targeting, stating that “the drone was directed straight into the office of the SBU head in this building.” In response to the attack, Zelenskyy ordered security services to prepare a severe retaliatory strike against Russian targets.
“I gave Poklad the task to respond adequately, tangibly and, if possible, in a mirrored way to the Russians for this strike, when everything is prepared,” Zelenskyy said, concluding that the Ukrainian military “will support this response.”
Kyiv mayor Vitaliy Klitschko stated that there are currently five people injured in the Shevchenkivskyi District. Medical personnel have hospitalized four of the injured.
UPD: The “Zavertaylo” restaurant chain announced on Instagram that one of its locations, located between the SBU Central Administration building and St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, was damaged by an explosion and is currently closed.
Kyiv mayor Klitschko added that there are reports of seven people injured in the Shevchenkivskyi District, with six of the injured being treated at city hospitals.
UPD 2: Klitschko wrote that a fire in a non-residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi District has been extinguished. The building’s ceiling and exterior wall were destroyed.
The mayor added that emergency services continue to work at the scene and that nine people were injured when a drone crashed in this district. Seven of them were hospitalized.
