Russian Jet-Powered Drone Crashes Near Poland Border, Blast Damages Ukrainian Checkpoint

A Russian jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicle crashed in a forest area near the Yahodyn checkpoint on the Ukrainian border with Poland.

According to the Volyn Regional Military Administration, the blast wave caused structural damage to the checkpoint premises located at the terminal entrance. No casualties were reported as a result of the incident.

Initial monitoring channels had reported the drone moving toward the Yahodyn checkpoint, while the Ukrainian Air Force tracked the Russian drone over Volyn Oblast heading toward the Polish border.

Sources confirmed there was no direct hit on the Yahodyn border checkpoint itself.

In response to the aerial movement, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces scrambled fighter aircraft into the air. Polish military officials noted that ground-based air defense systems and radar reconnaissance units were placed on high readiness.

Air raid sirens were subsequently activated across the Lublin Voivodeship in eastern Poland, according to RBC-Ukraine.

Previously, Poland scrambled fighter jets overnight on September 15 in response to renewed Russian attacks on western Ukraine involving jet-powered strike drones, according to Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command.

The command reported that Polish and allied aircraft were deployed around 4 a.m. while ground-based air defense and radar systems were placed on heightened readiness.
