According to Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia), multiple Russian Shahed-type attack drones struck the station area during a large-scale overnight attack, destroying the station building and damaging railway infrastructure.
“At night, the Russians destroyed the Shostka station building and damaged station infrastructure with direct hits from several dozen Shaheds,” Ukrzaliznytsia stated.

According to Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba, passengers and railway personnel avoided injury because they were sheltering during the attack. Kuleba said railway workers are currently assessing damage and working to restore affected infrastructure.
Ukrzaliznytsia reported that morning train services in the region continued operating on schedule, although adjustments may be introduced for some suburban routes. The company later announced that several commuter trains serving the Shostka direction would temporarily operate between Konotop and Tereshchenska stations and back.

According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, the attack sparked multiple fires and damaged residential and non-residential buildings, administrative facilities, and vehicles across the Shostka community. Local authorities reported additional damage to civilian infrastructure following the drone strike.
The railway station in Shostka serves as a transportation hub for residents of northern Sumy region, located near Ukraine’s border with Russia. The attack formed part of a broader overnight Russian aerial assault against Ukraine.
Earlier, Russian forces destroyed a local school in the border village of Masheve in Ukraine’s Chernihiv region during a drone attack overnight on May 29, according to local authorities. No casualties were reported, but the school building and its contents were completely destroyed.
