Several Russian S8000 Banderol cruise missiles crossed into Belarus during Moscow’s massive attack on Ukraine, with at least one reportedly flying around 75 miles into Belarusian territory before running out of fuel and crashing into a field, according to OSINT community Oko Gora on August 22.

Ukrainian monitoring channels tracked multiple Banderol weapons entering Belarus beginning at around 4 am, while a Belarusian military aircraft was scrambled from Baranovichi airfield.

Separate reports indicated that a Su-30 fighter was sent up as one of the weapons moved deeper into the country.

According to Ukrainian monitoring resource Monitor, one Banderol traveled approximately 120 kilometers, or 75 miles, inside Belarus without being brought down by Belarusian Su-30s. It eventually exhausted its fuel supply and fell into a field. The circumstances could not be independently verified.

Other monitoring reports indicated that at least 12 Russian Banderol missile-drones entered Belarusian airspace during the attack. It remains unclear whether any were destroyed or disrupted using electronic warfare.

The incursion came during another large-scale Russian aerial attack on Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Air Force said its defenses destroyed or suppressed 191 aerial targets between the evening of August 21 and the morning of August 22, including three Kh-31P/Kh-59 missiles, six Banderol munitions and 182 drones. Russian strikes were recorded at 41 locations, while debris from intercepted weapons fell at another 12 sites.

Russia also launched 217 attack drones, including Shahed-type UAVs, Gerbera drones and decoys. More than 50 were jet-powered, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

The S8000 Banderol is a relatively new Russian weapon combining characteristics of a cruise missile and long-range attack drone. Developed by Russia’s Kronstadt company, it has an estimated range of roughly 500 kilometers, or 310 miles.

Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence says Russia can produce up to 80 Banderol missiles per month. The weapon reportedly cruises at 520-560 kilometers per hour and can reach maximum speeds of 620-650 kilometers per hour.

Earlier, a Russian “Banderol” missile crossed from the Odesa region into Moldova on August 17, Ukraine’s Air Force reported, before an unidentified aircraft crashed near the village of Tălmaza in the country’s Ștefan Vodă district.
