Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that his Polish counterpart Karol Nawrocki is acting in a similar manner to former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán when attempting to exert pressure on Ukraine.

Zelenskyy made the remarks during a broadcast of the national telethon “United News” on June 21.

Commenting on Nawrocki’s decision to revoke his Order of the White Eagle, Zelenskyy referred to parliamentary elections scheduled to take place in Poland in October 2027. In his view, the Polish president is seeking to boost political support ahead of the vote by “fostering hatred toward Ukrainians.”

“This is what Orbán did. A bad story. I believe it will end badly,” Zelenskyy said.

The president added that he does not consider the decision to be directly linked to bilateral relations between Ukraine and Poland. Instead, he suggested that Nawrocki is engaged in a political struggle for approval ratings and is attempting to mobilize voters through anti-Ukrainian sentiment.

Zelenskyy warned that such an approach could lead to long-term societal radicalization and damage relations between Ukrainians and Poles.

“One cannot gain political dividends from hatred. In the long term, it will lead to poor relations between countries and peoples,” he said.

He added that Nawrocki “does not live in a monarchy but in a democracy,” stressing the need to build relations with Ukraine, which is currently defending Europe, including Poland.

“We and the Poles cannot be anything but partners and friends because we are neighbors. Because if you are not a partner, then who are you? Over time, all of this turns into what we have with the Russians: disrespect, aggression, and radicalization of society,” the president also said.

During the same interview, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine’s Defense Forces and domestic defense industry have already begun “bringing the war back to Russia,” warning that the country’s long-range strike capabilities will continue to strengthen.

However, the president stressed that anger alone is not sufficient, adding that it must be translated into concrete action and that Russia should experience the consequences of the war on its own territory.

“The Russians must feel that the war must return to Russia, to the territory of the country that launched the aggression,” Zelenskyy said.
