“Time Is Not on Moscow’s Side”: US Urges Russia to “Make a Deal” and Secure Immediate Ceasefire

The United States has urged Russia to secure an immediate ceasefire and negotiate a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine, warning that Moscow’s military and economic positions are deteriorating rapidly, RBC-Ukraine reported on June 23.

Addressing the United Nations Security Council, US Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dan Negrea reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to defending Ukrainian sovereignty and critical infrastructure, specifically condemning Russian bombardment of cultural heritage sites, including the strike on Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.

Pointing to remarks made by US President Donald Trump at the G7 summit, Negrea emphasized the urgency of a swift diplomatic resolution, noting that “Russia should make a deal. Time is not on Moscow’s side,” according to the news agency.

The diplomat supported his assessment by detailing the severe operational and economic costs currently borne by the Russian Federation. Negrea noted that the Russian military suffers roughly 40,000 casualties—both killed and wounded—each month, while its domestic economy faces deep strain.

Conversely, the US envoy highlighted that Ukraine is quickly deploying advanced frontline innovations to counter the invasion, according to RBC-Ukraine.

The diplomatic gridlock follows Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s formal rejection of a comprehensive European peace framework.

Established during a London summit, the Western proposal demanded an immediate, verifiable ceasefire alongside financial reparations, parameters that Moscow dismissed as an unacceptable ultimatum.
