Ukraine’s 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade destroyed a multi-axis Russian assault utilizing a combined motorcycle platoon near the settlement of Mala Tokmachka in Zaporizhzhia region, according to an official statement released by the brigade on June 18.

The engagement is different from the standard Russian operational patterns. Instead of launching the attack under the cover of morning or evening twilight, Russian command deployed forces from several motorized rifle regiments and brigades at 6:00 p.m. on June 16 under conditions of total daylight visibility, the 118th Brigade reported.

To maximize the speed of the advance, the Russian forces committed over 30 pieces of motor equipment attempting to breach Ukrainian defensive lines via three separate routes.

The assault also featured specialized technical modifications intended to counter Ukrainian defensive measures. According to tactical data provided by the 118th Brigade, several Russian motorcycles were outfitted with specialized makeshift plows intended to clear paths through Ukrainian minefields, while other units carried mobile electronic warfare (EW) systems to suppress defensive drone operations.

Despite these battlefield adaptations and the unexpected timing, Ukrainian defensive units and attached reinforcing elements successfully intercepted the advancing columns on the approaches to the settlement. The brigade confirmed that 26 Russian assault troops were killed during the multi-hour engagement, while more than 10 others were wounded and abandoned by their retreating units in the nearby tree lines without medical evacuation.

The defensive operation concluded with the destruction of more than two dozen Russian motorcycles and up to 10 all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), the 118th Brigade stated. No casualties were reported among the Ukrainian personnel during the repelled assault.

The 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade was previously officially recognized in the National Register of Records of Ukraine for its 1,500-day defense of Mala Tokmachka. The frontline village has become one of the longest-held defensive positions since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, with the brigade maintaining its lines despite relentless artillery fire, aviation bombings, and drone strikes, according to the official milestone announcement.
