Ukraine’s Defense Procurement Agency has signed contracts to supply 1,500 motorcycles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, marking the country’s largest military motorcycle procurement to date and tripling the number acquired last year.

According to the Ministry of Defense on June 3, all motorcycles are expected to be delivered to military units by the end of 2026. The procurement was carried out through a competitive tender involving six companies, which the ministry said reduced the final contract value and generated nearly 12 million hryvnias (approximately $290,000) in savings.

“Six proposals within a single procurement process demonstrate that competition exists in the market. For the state, this means the ability to purchase the required equipment on better terms and direct the freed-up resources toward additional support for the Defense Forces,” said Defense Procurement Agency Director Arsen Zhumadilov.

According to Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, motorcycles remain among the most in-demand vehicles on the battlefield alongside pickup trucks. He said the savings achieved through the tender process will be redirected toward additional military procurement, including other transportation needs.

The Ministry of Defense noted that motorcycles are widely used by Ukrainian forces for a range of battlefield and logistical tasks, including transporting personnel, deploying drone operators to positions, conducting reconnaissance missions, and supporting small-unit operations in areas where road infrastructure is limited or damaged.

Motorcycles have become an increasingly important component of frontline mobility during Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, offering military units a fast and relatively low-cost means of transportation in areas where larger vehicles face operational constraints.

Earlier, Ukraine began field testing the domestically developed WolfStorm electric motorcycle, designed for reconnaissance, logistics, and drone-support missions. According to Defense Express, the bike offers a range of up to 100 km, a top speed of 80 km/h, and a low acoustic and thermal signature, making it suitable for operations requiring stealth and mobility.
