Ukrainian forces have begun using a newly developed air defense system to intercept Russian S8000 "Banderol" missiles, according to the Brave1 defense technology cluster.

The innovation consortium reported on its official website that the cost of intercepting a target with this unnamed defense mechanism is significantly lower than the price of the incoming munition itself. Video footage released by Brave1 shows the combat system locking onto, tracking, and neutralizing an incoming S8000 missile.

The system is built to target and automatically track enemy missiles until they are destroyed. Brave1 noted that this is not the only solution currently operating against these weapons, as Ukraine scales up specialized technologies to counter Russian jet-powered drones and light cruise missiles.

"We are developing and implementing innovative solutions to protect our citizens from modern threats," Brave1 representatives stated.

In addition to ground-based interceptors, Ukrainian aviation continues to engage these targets. On September 2, a Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jet successfully shot down an S8000 missile at an extremely low altitude using an R-60 air-to-air missile.

Earlier, several Russian S8000 Banderol cruise missiles crossed into Belarus during Moscow’s massive attack on Ukraine, with at least one reportedly flying around 75 miles into Belarusian territory before running out of fuel and crashing into a field, according to OSINT community Oko Gora on August 22.

Ukrainian monitoring channels tracked multiple Banderol weapons entering Belarus beginning at around 4 am, while a Belarusian military aircraft was scrambled from Baranovichi airfield.
