Ukraine Forms First Motorcycle Assault Unit for Rapid Strike Operations

On May 20, Ukraine’s 425th Separate Assault Regiment “Skala” announced the formation of the country’s first motorcycle assault company—a new tactical element designed for fast and flexible breakthroughs on the battlefield.
According to the regiment, the new unit was created to carry out rapid advances and position takeovers through high-speed mobility.
“During training, the fighters spent hundreds of hours behind the handlebars and practiced firing on the move, firing thousands of rounds,” the regiment said in a statement.
“As a result, we have a modern ‘cavalry,’ whose main task is to swiftly break through to enemy positions, carry out assault operations, and quickly shift the direction of attack.”
The unit also shared video footage of the motorcycle troops in action. The footage shows soldiers riding in pairs—one as the driver, the other as the shooter—moving together in tight formations, or “swarms.”
The concept of motorcycle assault units has already been used on the battlefield by Russian forces, according to defense outlet Militarnyi. Over the past year, Russia has been developing and deploying motorcycle tactics with increasing frequency and scale.
“The use of motorcycles in Russian assault operations is not new—it has been evolving for at least the past year, gradually reaching a new level, particularly in terms of scale,” the publication reported.
As one example, Militarnyi noted that on April 14, Russian troops launched an unsuccessful offensive near the village of Velyka Novosilka in Donetsk region, deploying up to 41 motorcycles.
Previously, it was reported that Ukrainian defenses improved defensive lines on three crucial sectors of Donetsk region along the Novopavlivka, Pokrovske and Vuhledar, enabling Ukrainian units to repel multiple enemy assaults and broken enemy attacks.
