Ukraine Cuts Crimea’s Lifeline, Hits Rail Bridges and Russian Naval Drone Base

Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out overnight strikes against multiple Russian military targets in temporarily occupied Crimea and southern Ukraine, including two railway bridges used for military logistics and a facility supporting Russian naval drones.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on August 1, Ukrainian forces struck the Syvash railway bridge near Chonhar and another railway bridge near Vladyslavivka.

The military said both bridges are used by Russian forces to transport personnel, military equipment, ammunition, and logistical supplies between temporarily occupied Crimea and Russian-held areas of southern Ukraine.

The military also reported a strike on a storage and maintenance facility for Russian uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) near Chornomorske in western Crimea. According to the General Staff, the site was used to store, prepare, and service naval drones employed in combat and special operations in the Black Sea.

In addition, Ukrainian forces targeted a Black Sea Fleet radio-electronic intelligence unit in Sevastopol, as well as a repair and recovery base near Pervomaiske in temporarily occupied Crimea.

Outside the peninsula, the General Staff reported strikes on a Russian logistics warehouse near Podove in the occupied part of Ukraine’s Kherson region and a warehouse used to store unmanned aerial vehicles near Tokmak in the occupied Zaporizhzhia region.

The General Staff did not provide details on the extent of the damage or whether the targeted facilities were destroyed.

In a statement, Ukraine’s military said, “The Defense Forces of Ukraine will continue to systematically carry out measures aimed at stopping the armed aggression of the Russian Federation.”

Earlier, on July 30, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces reported striking a Russian uncrewed surface vessel base in occupied Crimea as part of a broader operation that also targeted a Buk-M3 air defense system, Nebo-SVU and Sopka-2 radar systems, and a strike-drone launch site in occupied Donetsk region.
