Ukraine Pounds Russia’s Biggest Oil Refining Cluster for Second Day Running

Ukrainian long-range drones struck the Bashneft-UNPZ oil refinery in Russia’s city of Ufa overnight on August 2, marking the second reported attack on the city’s refining complex in as many days. The facility is part of one of Russia’s largest oil-processing hubs, located more than 1,400 kilometers from the frontline.

Videos of the strike published by the OSINT community Exilenova+ and geolocated by ASTRA indicate that the fire broke out at the Bashneft-UNPZ refinery.

Bashkortostan regional head Radiy Khabirov said the region had come under a large-scale drone attack, claiming that 25 drones had been intercepted. According to his statement, one drone was destroyed over an industrial zone, where debris sparked a fire.

Footage circulating online shows a large blaze at the refinery. Based on visual analysis, OSINT observers cited by Exilenova+ assessed that the fire may have affected either the ELOU-AVT-6 crude distillation unit or the G-43-107 catalytic cracking complex.

The ELOU-AVT-6 unit is the refinery’s primary crude processing installation, designed to desalinate and separate crude oil into initial fractions, including gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, and fuel oil.

It has a processing capacity exceeding 6 million metric tons of crude annually. The G-43-107 catalytic cracking unit converts heavier petroleum fractions into high-octane gasoline components, liquefied petroleum gases, and secondary gas oils, making it one of the refinery’s key fuel-production assets.

Bashneft-UNPZ is one of three adjacent refineries that form the Ufa refining complex alongside Bashneft-Novoyl and Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim, all operated within Russia’s Rosneft group. Together, the three facilities have a combined crude processing capacity of approximately 23.5 million metric tons per year, making the site one of Russia’s largest refining centers.

Russia’s Giant Ufa Refinery Engulfed in Flames After Drone Strike

According to Rosneft’s reported figures, Bashneft-UNPZ alone has a primary refining capacity of 6.6 million metric tons annually and produces more than 40 petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel fuel, liquefied petroleum gases, and fuel oil.

The strike follows another Ukrainian drone attack reported on August 1 against the neighboring Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim refinery, which has an annual processing capacity of more than 9.5 million metric tons. Ufa’s refining facilities have been targeted repeatedly in recent months, with previous reported drone strikes occurring in July, June, and April 2026.
