Ukraine Prepares Asymmetric Measures Against Russian Ballistic Strikes, Zelenskyy Says

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with top defense officials to finalize asymmetric technological solutions against Russian ballistic missile strikes and approve structural reforms for frontline units, Zelenskyy reported on July 30.
The strategic briefing brought together Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi, General Staff Chief Ihor Skybyuk, acting Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara, and Deputy Head of the President’s Office Pavlo Palisa to evaluate defense measures across both military and diplomatic levels.

“We identified solutions and technological steps, asymmetric measures that can give Ukraine more protection,” Zelenskyy stated, highlighting new countermeasures designed to neutralize Moscow’s escalating ballistic tactics.
On the battlefield, military commanders reviewed defense operations in eastern Ukraine, focusing specifically on heavy engagements in the Sloviansk and Kostiantynivka sectors. To strengthen tactical resilience on the contact line, the General Staff is preparing structural changes that will allow commanders to “more clearly evaluate the situation on the front line, respond more quickly to its changes, and provide more opportunities for brigades to effectively react to Russian assault activity,” the President stated.
Simultaneously, Ukrainian forces are expanding their long-range targeting campaign against Russian assets across temporarily occupied territories. “Our operation of mid-strikes against Russian forces and positions in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine, particularly in our Crimea, continues,” Zelenskyy noted, adding that officials have “updated the list of top priority mid-strike targets.”
To sustain these operations and safeguard civilian infrastructure, Ukrainian defense and presidential teams are actively coordinating with European partners capable of supplying additional air defense missiles, according to President Zelenskyy.
The meeting also evaluated security measures surrounding Ukraine’s Black Sea maritime export corridor to ensure the continued flow of commercial shipping despite ongoing threats.
In parallel, Zelenskyy instructed Commander-in-Chief Drapatyi to deepen intelligence sharing and military coordination with partner nations across the region, expressing gratitude to frontline units that continue to prevent Russian forces from achieving their strategic objectives.
Seeking a cost-effective alternative to US Patriot batteries to defend against Russian ballistic missiles, as it was previously reported that Ukraine aims to complete a working prototype for the joint “Freyja” European anti-ballistic missile defense system by the first half of 2027.
