Ukraine launched long-range cruise missile strikes on multiple Russian military-industrial targets, including a defense facility in Cheboksary, located more than 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on May 5.

According to a statement published by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on May 5, the operation involved combat launches of FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles as part of a broader “Deep Strike” campaign targeting Russia’s war infrastructure. “

Last night there were combat launches of FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles as part of the Armed Forces’ Deep Strike operation against several enemy targets, including military-industrial facilities in Cheboksary,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that the missiles successfully covered a distance exceeding 1,500 kilometers. “Ukrainian ‘Flamingos’ traveled more than 1,500 kilometers,” Zelenskyy stated, describing the strikes as part of Ukraine’s continued long-range response to Russian attacks.

Zelenskyy said the targeted facility in Cheboksary produces relay protection systems, automation equipment, and low-voltage components, and supplies navigation elements for the Russian Navy, missile production sector, aviation, and armored vehicles. “All of this is what Russians use in the war against Ukraine,” he noted.

Open-source monitoring groups reported that a fire broke out at the site following the strike. The facility—identified in publicly available data as the “VNIIR-Progress” plant—has previously been targeted in earlier attacks.

The strikes took place amid widespread missile alerts across Russia, with multiple regions reportedly issuing warnings overnight, including areas located deep inside the country.
