Ukraine Strikes One of Russia’s Most Dangerous Missile Systems in Occupied Crimea

Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) operators struck a Russian Bastion coastal missile system in temporarily occupied Crimea, targeting a platform capable of launching both Zircon and Onyx missiles used in Russian strikes against Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, or HUR, said on September 4 that the operation was carried out by its Group 13 special unit during August 2026.

The Bastion system was successfully hit during the operation, according to HUR. Ukrainian intelligence did not specify the exact extent of damage to the complex.

Russia uses Bastion primarily as a mobile coastal defense system, but its P-800 Onyx missiles have also repeatedly been launched against targets on Ukrainian territory.

The system is also associated with Russia’s newer Zircon hypersonic missile, giving Bastion an increasingly important role beyond its original mission of attacking naval targets.

Zircon missiles are designed to travel at extremely high speeds, making them particularly difficult for conventional air defense systems to intercept.

Group 13 operators also targeted support equipment accompanying Russian forces in Crimea.

HUR reported that two fuel trucks and a Russian command-and-staff vehicle were destroyed or damaged during the same operation.

Previously, HUR released new details on Russia’s 3M22 Zircon missile, including its guidance system, propulsion, and the network of 70 enterprises involved in its production.
