Ukraine’s Drone Interceptors Take Down Nearly 3,000 Russian UAVs Over Pokrovsk in Seven Months

Ukrainian National Guard interceptor drone crews have shot down nearly 3,000 Russian unmanned aerial vehicles since the beginning of 2026 while operating in the Pokrovsk direction, the 3rd Spartan Operational Brigade reported on August 15.

The brigade said its air-defense interceptor teams operate around the clock, targeting Russian UAVs before they can reach Ukrainian positions or civilian areas.

The intercepted aircraft include Molniya attack drones, Lancet loitering munitions, Supercam reconnaissance UAVs, and other types used by Russian forces for strikes and battlefield surveillance.

According to Spartan, the interceptor crews belong to the brigade’s anti-aircraft missile and artillery division. The number of missions varies depending on Russian drone activity, with individual crews sometimes conducting dozens of launches in a single day.

“Sometimes we fly as many as 20 times. The success of an interception depends on the entire crew: if everyone does their job well, the enemy target will be destroyed. And our greatest joy is when an enemy drone fails to reach its target and harm our people,” said an interceptor drone operator with the call sign Yakudza.

The nearly 3,000 interceptions were recorded over seven months of operations, according to the brigade.

In a separate operation in the Sumy region, Ukraine’s 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade reported on August 15 that its Sky Wars interceptor unit had destroyed 75 Russian drones since the beginning of the month.

The targets included 53 Molniya-2 strike drones, six Lancet loitering munitions, three Gerbera drones, and a rare Knyaz Veschyi Oleg reconnaissance UAV valued at around $100,000.
