Ukraine Downs Rare High-Value Russian Forpost-R Strike Drone at 4,300 Meters, Video

Ukrainian drone operators intercepted and destroyed a rare Russian Forpost-R heavy strike and reconnaissance drone over Russia’s Kursk region at an altitude of 4,300 meters, Unmanned Systems Forces Commander Robert “Magyar” Brovdi reported on July 27.

The high-value aircraft, designed to carry laser-guided KAB-20 precision aerial bombs, was brought down using a Ukrainian-developed “Chaklun-KM” interceptor drone. The specialized aerial engagement was executed by pilots from the 7th “Topot” Battalion within the 414th “Magyar’s Birds” Strike UAV Brigade, Magyar reported.

The destruction of the Forpost-R represents a notable tactical loss for Russian aviation, marking only the sixth visually confirmed destruction of this specific UAV model since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The successful engagement highlights the growing role of anti-drone interceptors within Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces (SBS). Since the establishment of the dedicated SBS grouping on June 11, 2025, Ukrainian units have targeted or destroyed more than 45,000 Russian strike and reconnaissance winged drones, alongside over 9,100 Shahed and Gerbera loitering munitions.

Despite the immense volume of drone operations along the front lines, the Forpost-R remains an exceptionally rare target, with this interception being only the second downing of the type recorded by SBS command, following an earlier interception of the same model in April 2025, Magyar noted.

As part of its ongoing Operation “MoLoChKa,” Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces have also recently targeted 159 Russian shadow fleet vessels across the Azov and Black seas over 12 days in July 2026.
