Russian BM-21 Grad multiple-launch rocket system was hit by a powerful blast after being struck by an FPV drone while still positioned for firing, according to footage released by the Signum Battalion of Ukraine’s 59th Unmanned Systems Brigade.

The Russian crew reportedly managed to fire only two ranging rockets before the Ukrainian drone reached the launcher.

“The forecast says the hail is canceled. SIGNUM fighters hunted down a Russian BM-21 Grad  multiple-launch rocket system right on its firing position,” the unit said.

Footage of the strike shows the launcher erupting after impact, with the remaining rockets apparently contributing to the violent secondary detonation.

The Signum operators also struck several other Russian vehicles used to move personnel and supplies toward the front.

According to the unit, the additional targets included a pickup truck from which Russian troops were seen jumping out, an ATV, a camouflaged vehicle, and other logistics equipment.

The BM-21 Grad remains one of Russia’s most widely used multiple-launch rocket systems in its war of aggression against Ukraine.

Developed in the early 1960s and introduced into Soviet service in 1963, the system is mounted on a Ural truck chassis and carries 40 launch tubes for 122mm rockets.

A Grad can fire its full load in roughly 20 seconds, saturating an area of up to about 14.5 hectares, or 36 acres.

Depending on the ammunition used, the system can strike targets at distances of up to roughly 40 kilometers, or 25 miles, making it particularly dangerous against troop concentrations, defensive positions, and infrastructure.

Earlier, Ukrainian forces tracked down and destroyed a Russian BM-30 Smerch multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) and its accompanying reloading vehicle hidden approximately 60 kilometers behind the frontline.
