Ukraine’s GTA V Drone Simulator Now Lets Players Hunt Shaheds

A Ukrainian drone training center has added Shahed-type drone interception missions to its custom Grand Theft Auto V FPV simulator, expanding a project designed to support drone pilot training and skill retention outside traditional military simulation platforms.

According to statements published by the WeTrueGun training center, the updated server is built on GTA V Legacy and the FiveM multiplayer framework. The organization said the new environment allows users to search for airborne Shahed-type targets, pursue them across the map, and simulate FPV drone interceptions inside urban combat scenarios.
The center stated that the project is not intended to replace professional military simulators currently used in combat training programs.
“Important clarification: in real interceptor crew training, specialized military simulators such as ‘Obriy’ are used,” WeTrueGun wrote in a published statement.
According to the center, the GTA-based project is intended primarily for “fun,” “psychological decompression,” “maintaining active FPV skills,” and “experiments” after work with real drones and military simulators.
WeTrueGun stated that operators inside the modified server can practice target acquisition, aerial pursuit, and reaction speed while flying FPV drones in a game-based environment adapted for combat-style scenarios.
The project forms part of a broader FPV drone training ecosystem operated by WeTrueGun for recruits preparing to serve in Ukraine’s Security and Defense Forces as external UAV operators.
WeTrueGun stated that training is provided free of charge for recruits who sign contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine after completing the course, while funding is covered by charitable organizations, donors, and the center itself.
Earlier, WeTrueGun adapted Grand Theft Auto V into a custom FPV drone simulator designed to supplement real-world drone pilot training. According to the center, the modified GTA V server allows operators to practice FPV maneuvering, navigation, and combat-style target engagement alongside military simulators such as Obriy.
