Ukraine’s SBU Drones Hit Major Lukoil Refinery 1,500 Km Deep Inside Russia

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) struck one of Russia’s largest oil refineries more than 1,500 kilometers, or 930 miles, from Ukraine, setting fire to a key crude-processing unit, the agency reported on July 29.

The operation targeted infrastructure at the Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez refinery in Russia’s Perm region.

The SBU said the strike was carried out under President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s directive to weaken Russia’s military and economic capacity to continue its war of aggression against Ukraine.

With an annual processing capacity of nearly 13 million metric tons, the facility is one of Russia’s largest refineries. It supplies fuel to both the civilian market and the Russian military.

A fire broke out after drones reached the site. Preliminary information indicated that a primary crude-distillation unit—one of the refinery’s most important production facilities—was burning.

Zelenskyy confirmed the operation as part of Ukraine’s expanding deep-strike campaign.

“Long-range sanctions were also carried out against an oil refinery in the Perm region,” he wrote, adding that Ukrainian forces had also targeted “an export terminal and a military enterprise in the Rostov region.”

Previously, Ukrainian long-range drones struck the Ryazan oil refinery and a major Wildberries logistics center, setting fires at two large industrial sites.

In addition, Ukrainian forces struck a base used by Russian Black Sea Fleet fast boats near Mizhvodne in temporarily occupied Crimea.
