According to Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Directorate (HUR) on October 28, the mission was designed to disrupt Russian offensive plans and prevent Moscow’s forces from cutting Ukrainian military supply routes in the region.
Over seven days, GROUP 10 operators conducted combat missions targeting Russian positions and personnel while clearing territory of enemy forces. Ukrainian intelligence reported that its personnel struck 1,100 Russian targets during the operation, killing 108 soldiers and taking 29 prisoners of war.
Following the operation, the special forces transferred the secured positions to other Ukrainian Defense Forces units responsible for maintaining control of the area. HUR released additional footage of the operation on October 28, showing elements of the unit’s activities in the Sumy region.

The operation comes as Ukrainian forces conduct a separate counteroffensive near Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region. Ukrainian units advanced more than 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) through underground infrastructure during Operation Veles, reportedly capturing over 30 Russian soldiers.
The operation involved National Guard brigades, military intelligence units, and drone operators. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was briefed on its initial results by senior military commanders on October 27.
